Twelve Professionals Win in Six States: Five take First Place Spots And Move on to National Competition
DELANCO NJ…Jevic Transportation Inc., a Philadelphia based motor carrier, has always prided itself on its safety record – on the road and in the office. But in these past few weeks the safe driving and technical skills demonstrated nationwide in state driving championships by its professional driver force leave no doubt that this is true. The company today announced 12 drivers have won first, second, or third place in six state driving championships. Sponsored by the individual states motor truck associations and sanctioned by the American Trucking Associations, the driving championships challenge professional drivers in areas such as safe driving techniques, pre-trip safety inspections, and depth of industry and safety knowledge during a personal interview. “We are extremely proud of the talents and commitment to safety displayed by all the Jevic drivers that signed up and competed in the state championships”, stated David H. Gorman, President and CEO of the company. “Driving a big rig on the highway always takes great skill and concentration – take that challenge and magnify it by competing with some of the best drivers from other carriers and you get an idea of the determination and skill it takes to be a truly safe driver”. First place winners move on to the 70th Annual ATA National Championships which will be held this year at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN on August 21-25. The competition is considered the “Super Bowl of Safety” and all competitors must have 12 consecutive months of accident-free driving to compete in the states or nationals The winners, and the state championships won by the Jevic drivers, are listed below. Jevic Transportation Inc, an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, is a less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider that has carved a distinctive position in the marketplace due to its exclusive Breakbulk-Free Operating model. The company provides an appealing alternative to the major LTL carriers in its ability to customize its products and services and is superior to most niche carriers in size and scale. Jevic provides product depth and customization for their marketplace with services such as The Heat Fleet; Jevic 100% Guaranteed Service; Partial Trailer load Service, and Multi-regional and National capabilities in one system. In addition, without the multiple handling associated with the other, traditional, breakbulk, or “hub-and-spoke” carriers, the company provides an industry low claims ratios, creating more efficiency in its customers’ supply chains. The ATA’s Truck Driving Championships is one of the largest and most important safety programs in the industry. The Truck Driving Championship program begins at state level. Each of the 50 U.S. states holds a competition, the winners of which are then eligible to compete at the national level in eight classes of competition. Competitors are judged through a written exam, driving test, pre-trip inspection test and professional interview and competitors must have driven accident free for at least 12 months (from NTDC to NTDC). This year marks the 70th anniversary of the national event. |
