Company Recieves High Scores for Reducing Environmental Impact

Delanco, NJ…Jevic Transportation Inc. has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. The announcement was made today by David H. Gorman, president & CEO of Jevic. The company is a less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider headquartered in suburban Philadelphia.

In making the announcement, Gorman said, “Jevic has a long history of thinking and acting ‘green’ and our joining the Transport Partnership reaffirms the commitment of our company and employees to protecting the environment. It is a responsibility that we take seriously and work at every day.”

"I am pleased to welcome Jevic Transportation to the SmartWay Transport Partnership," said Margo T. Oge, director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality, EPA. "They join the Partnership in a commitment to increase fuel efficiency and make freight-related environmental improvements."
Jevic will contribute to the Partnership’s goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 33 to 66 million metric tons and remove up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012. This will be accomplished through the improved environmental performance of their freight operations. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. By joining SmartWay Transport Partnership, Jevic demonstrates its continued strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, and logistics companies to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies. The Partnership currently has over 600 Partners.
